Othello has raised $8 million in a seed round to build an AI-driven sales call coaching platform, the company announced.

The funding lands in a category where sellers already lean heavily on conversation intelligence tools from Gong, Chorus, and HubSpot. Othello narrows the focus to coaching: turning recorded calls into structured rep-development feedback rather than deal-pipeline analytics. The positioning carves space between call recorders and full revenue intelligence suites.

Seed capital at this size typically funds a 12-to-18 month runway. For an early-stage AI vendor, that horizon covers model fine-tuning on sales conversations and the integration work that links a coaching layer to Salesforce and HubSpot. It does not, at this level, typically fund a national sales force.

What does this change for sales leaders?

Three things, in practical terms. First, the budget line. A new coaching vendor gives RevOps a credible alternative to renew the incumbent at full list price. Second, the workflow. Coaching-oriented tools score calls against rep-specific criteria — discovery depth, objection handling, multi-thread quality — and surface those scores inside the rep's daily workflow rather than a Monday manager review. Third, the rubric. AI coaching platforms built today run on the same retrieval-augmented generation architecture that powered the 2023 wave of AI sales assistants. The differentiator becomes the scoring methodology, not the model.

For a five-to-fifteen-rep team, an AI coaching layer typically slots in after call recording but before quarterly performance reviews. For a fifty-to-two-hundred-rep organization, the same tool replaces or supplements the manager observation quota — usually two to four calls per rep per week — that scaling managers cannot sustain past thirty reps.

Othello did not disclose lead investor, valuation, participating angels, founders, or a general availability date.

The seed close matters more for the segment than for any individual seller. Sales call coaching remains the least mature piece of the conversation intelligence stack. Call recording is solved. Deal summary generation is solved. Pipeline risk scoring is solved. Rep-specific skill scoring still runs on proprietary methodologies, and $8 million buys eighteen months of methodology work.

Watch at least one comparable AI coaching vendor close a Series A before mid-2026. The category has moved from interesting to funded, and capital follows capital.
